Store, POS & Retail Operations
Till, store systems and backend connected so selling continues when the line does not.
What is at stake for the CIO
The store is the one place in this landscape where a fault is visible immediately — in front of a customer, at a till, with a queue behind it. So the question is never only which POS software is chosen, but which decisions the store may take without a line to the core.
The question behind it
How do store operations and goods flow stay stable during the transformation?

- 1Till
- 2Store system
- 3POS data stream
- 4Stock and revenue in the core
Systems and processes
- Connecting till and POS systems to the backend
- Store systems and store processes
- POS data integration and processing of sales data
- SAP POS Data Management and PIPE as historical product experience
- Prices, stock and returns across channel boundaries
- Offline capability and operational safety in the store
Decisions that go wrong most often
- The till treated as a frontend, although in an outage it makes posting decisions.
- Pricing maintained in two places because the rollout would otherwise slip.
- Returns modelled around the channel they arrive in rather than the one they were bought in.
- Offline operation documented as an edge case and never rehearsed in the rollout.
Decisions FirstRetail prepares
- 1Which decisions the store may take autonomously and which the core keeps.
- 2Where price and stock are held authoritatively, and how the store receives them.
- 3How sales data flows back into the core, within what window, and who owns the errors.
- 4What operational behaviour the rollout must demonstrate before a wave is released.
Where the experience comes from
Store interfaces, store engine, POS Data Management and PIPE from product work at SAP and from retail programmes. Ownership of enterprise solutions in German department-store retail, with store processes across the country. The role is architecture, integration and governance — not the implementation of any single till product.
Every name here stands for historical delivery experience from completed programmes. None of them is an endorsement or an indication of a current client relationship. I do not display logos; that would need a permission I do not have.
