Hosting
This website is served through GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc. When a page is requested, GitHub processes technically necessary connection and log data — in particular IP address, time of the request, the resource requested, HTTP status, volume transferred, the identifier sent by the browser and, where applicable, the referring page. The purpose is the secure and reliable operation of the website. I have no influence over the extent or retention period of this server-side logging; the details are set out in GitHub's privacy statement at docs.github.com/site-policy.
Transfer abroad
GitHub, Inc. is based in the United States and operates a worldwide delivery network. The connection data described above may therefore be processed outside Switzerland and outside the European Economic Area. The basis is the legitimate interest in operating a publicly reachable website securely.
What this website itself processes
This website is served statically. There are no forms, no comment function, no login and no user area. No data is collected or stored in a database of my own.
Cookies and analytics
This website sets no cookies. No analytics, marketing or tracking tools are embedded, and no audience measurement takes place. That is why there is no consent banner. Should such a tool be introduced later, this statement will be updated beforehand and the legal basis stated.
Fonts and external content
Fonts are served from this site's own files; there is no connection to Google Fonts or any other font service. No social media plugins are embedded that would transfer data on page load. LinkedIn and Instagram are linked only; their own privacy terms apply once you follow the link.
Getting in touch
If you write to markus@firstretail.consulting or call, I process what you send in order to answer your enquiry and any follow-up questions. The legal basis is the performance of pre-contractual measures, or my legitimate interest in responding. Nothing is passed to third parties without your consent.
Retention
Server-side log data is deleted by GitHub according to its own schedule, which I do not control. Business correspondence is kept for as long as it is needed for the enquiry and any resulting engagement, and at most until the statutory commercial and tax retention periods expire. Enquiries that do not lead to an engagement are deleted after twelve months at the latest.
Your rights
You have the right to information, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority — in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, in the European Union the authority where you are resident. A message to markus@firstretail.consulting is enough to exercise any of them.
Applicable law
The revised Swiss Data Protection Act applies to this processing. Where visitors from the European Union are concerned, the General Data Protection Regulation applies in addition.
