Career path

Four parts, each with a job of its own: foundation, leadership, entrepreneurship, independent advisory.

  1. 2001 – 2007

    SAP AG

Senior Business Consultant — SAP Retail & Fashion

Consulting at the software vendor. Store processes, POS integration and the join between AFS and Retail — where fashion logic and retail logic meet. These years built the functional and technical foundation for everything that came after.

    Systems
SAP Retail and IS-Retail · AFS–Retail integration · MM, SD and master data · ALE and EDI · SAP Retail Store, Store Engine and POS Data Management
    Sectors
Department store · fashion · grocery · oil and gas
  2. 2007 – 2018

    Richemont

Head of Retail Technology, CRM & eCommerce

Eleven years of international ownership on the client side. Maisons with landscapes of their own became one shared SAP Retail and omnichannel platform for more than ten houses — commerce, CRM, customer service and contact centre on the same foundation rather than beside it. The defining programme of those years was DARE.

    Systems
SAP Retail omnichannel · commerce · CRM · customer service and contact centre · integration architecture · master data
    Maisons
Cartier · IWC · Piaget · Montblanc and others
  3. 2019 – 06/2021

    EarlyBeep

    Founder & Managing Director

EarlyBeep marked the beginning of the entrepreneurial chapter: an app that enabled people to arrange shared sports and leisure activities. As founder, Markus Krupp was responsible for building both the company and the digital product – from funding and the business model through product strategy, architecture and UX/UI to development, operations and go-to-market.

    Entrepreneurship
    Funding · business model · product strategy · go-to-market
    Product & technology

    FirstRetail Consulting

    Founder & Principal Consultant

Independent CIO and enterprise architecture advisory, without an implementation business. SAP S/4HANA transformations, target architecture and architecture governance, retail, POS and omnichannel landscapes — and the question of how the enterprise core and the digital customer experience fit together. Currently architecture work in a consolidation of more than ten grown SAP systems.

Signature Transformations

Three programmes that show the work most clearly.

  • 2010 – 2018

DARE – Boutique of the Future

    Richemont

DARE connected the physical boutique with the digital customer experience. For Cartier and other Maisons, it created a new interaction between personal advice, digital product information and the operational retail systems.

At its heart was the Digital Tray, conceived by Markus Krupp. It connected the physical product presented in the boutique with the digital systems, making product information, availability and additional content immediately accessible during the client conversation.

The concept formed part of a broader SAP Retail and omnichannel transformation: eleven luxury Maisons operated on one shared SAP platform with a common template and governance across the group. Retail, commerce, CRM and customer service were integrated on the same foundation.

The programme reduced integration effort by 30 per cent.

  • 2002 – 2006

    Karstadt Enterprise Solution

    Karstadt

A full SAP R/3 Retail implementation with ownership of the store processes. MM, SD and POS, the integration of the AFS module, retail master data and the external interfaces.

  • current

    S/4HANA consolidation

    Swiss retail group

More than ten grown SAP systems are being brought onto one shared S/4HANA platform while retail operations continue. Target architecture and governance, Fiori and UI5, SAP BTP, integration and data architecture, plus product and release governance.

Selected project experience during my time at SAP: Karstadt, Lidl & Schwarz, HUGO BOSS, El Corte Inglés, adidas, ECCO, Suning and Breca Brummel.

The companies and brands named here stand for historical project experience, not for current client relationships or endorsements.
